How Often Does My Filter Need Changing?
March 23, 2021If you’ve heard the term ‘HEPA filter’ but are unsure of what it means, you’ve come to the right place. Here, we explain what a HEPA filter is, what they’re used for, and why they’re so beneficial.
What makes a filter a HEPA filter?
A filter is a HEPA filter when it follows a strict set of standards that ensure it’s of a very high quality. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and any HEPA filter must remove at least 99.97% of particles at least 0.3 microns in size from the air in order to be able to use that name. HEPA filters can be found in air purifiers and vacuum cleaners and are also commonly used in industries such as electronics, pharmaceuticals and aerospace.
How does a HEPA Filter work?
Created in the 1940s, HEPA filters actually boast a very simple design that works effectively to do exactly what it need to. The filter is made up of lots of tiny, fine fibres (arranged in no particular order) which create a mat that traps the particles that are drawn into it. These fibres can be damaged if they’re interfered with, so rather than trying to clean your filter it’s always best to replace it to ensure that it continues to work efficiently.
The Benefits of a HEPA Filter
The main benefit of using a HEPA filter over any other is that it is very efficient in removing all kinds of potentially nasty particles from the air that you’re breathing. A HEPA filter will trap everything from pollen and other allergens to viruses and bacteria, cleansing the air of anything that could irritate your lungs or damage your health.
